ReConnect
ReConnect is the name of our community programs. Formerly called the BAR (Buffalo Action Revitalization) Program, ReConnect aims to address Buffalo ReUse's social mission which includes neighborhood revitalization, environmental stewardship, and job and skills training.
Blight Reduction: Board ups, Street blitzes, putting garbage cans and flower planters at street corners, tree planting with ReTree WNY, murals and public art, installing bike racks and bus stop benches.
Greenspace Development: initiating community vegetable gardens, creating pocket parks, safe pass thrus, and edible landscaping, securing vacant lots against illegal dumping, and emphasizing best practices for indigenous plantings, rain gardens, compost, and sustainable improvements.
Supporting Home Ownership: building a space where neighbors can meet, organize, and learn, operating a tool-lending library, maintaining a yearly calendar of free workshops on home repair and gardening, and providing access and information about the responsibility of becoming a homeowner.
Community Building: coordinating events that unite our neighborhoods and others (volunteer work days, community events in the gardens, open houses), celebrating our accomplishments (harvest potlucks, film screenings, and farm stands), assessing community needs, asnd creating a space where block clubs, women's groups, neighbors, and supporters can congregate.
